This painting was inspired by my daughters working on a puzzle. I had an image in my head of childhood ending and the feeling of putting in the last puzzle piece that allowed the colourless adult world to take hold and the colourful childlike world to trail away. It’s a sad thought but it made me consider how I wanted to encourage my children to hold onto that brightness and to not let the realities of adulting bog down all the joys that we can also find in this life. Most of all, children seem to grow up so fast these days and I don’t want them to put that final piece into place before they’re childhood ends.
